A bike ride to explore Alcossebre

Tuesday 25th February

After a morning of setting up and sorting out I removed Betty Blue (my electric bike) from the bike rack (also covered in yellow pollen dust) and set off from the site, along by the beach and into Alcossebre and on to what looked like a lighthouse. When I reached the building it seemed to be a lookout tower …… maybe it’s open in the summer months!

The centre of Alcossebre is fine – a Spar and a bigger supermarket called Consum. I spotted a nice café on the front and will return tomorrow. Several cafés and shops are already open; others obviously getting ready to do so. The sound of drilling and hammering and the smell of new paint herald the new season.

In January there had been a massive storm in the area and the sandy beach outside the site had, mostly, been swept away, there was all sorts of damage along the road, one part of the road itself had washed away, fences and decking were broken. Clean up had begun, and, as I would see later, the road was restored in a couple of days, but there was a lot to do. Many people at Playa Tropicana were there during the storm – apparently it was epic!
