Retirement Run to the Sun – And Now ……….. early July

I took the motorhome out on the first day we were allowed to – Saturday 4th July – just to Welwyn Garden City site. I’ve really enjoyed just being in the motorhome. I have not felt unsafe or worried. I’m very happy to be back in my second home.

It’s true I haven’t been quite myself since the event in France; I hope I’m coming out the other side now, as I’m sure does Husband!!

It has been therapeutic to write this blog; it has taken 3 solid days but I’ve enjoyed compiling it and, although I knew it already, it’s obvious I had a great time on my Retirement Run to the Sun and I will definitely be doing something similar again when I can.

So, all is well! Here’s my current spot enjoying a little mojito in the sunshine as I look forward to lots more adventures to come.

A few updates:-

The insurance company paid out in full – it just took a very long time – 6 weeks – until it was settled. It was frustrating at the time, especially not having a proper laptop but, on reflection, they did the best they could in strange circumstances with staff working at home, new systems etc. and I’m sure a great number of other claims. They were more than fair. Thank you John Lewis.

A couple of weeks after my return, the guy at my storage facility washed the motorhome for me – it was blasted with dead flies.

Splat!!
Double Splat!

The guy found this small hole under the driver’s door handle, which I had missed entirely. I’m yet to resolve whether to claim on the motorhome insurance, or just pay for it directly.

So that’s how they got in!

The motorhome has been serviced – habitation and engine – the bike rack electrics have been fixed; it just seems to have been a blown fuse. The door handle finally arrived on 10th July, having been collected from Playa Tropicana (now re-opened), then posted from the mobile engineer’s home in France. Just need a date with the dealer to have it fixed.

The Egg Story – while I was in Spain I purchased some eggs – from a shelf, not a fridge. When Husband came to use them at home some days later, it turned out they were hard-boiled eggs – they had shiny shells but otherwise just looked like normal ‘raw’ eggs!

Finally, and very sadly, after my return and during lockdown Husband’s Step Mother, Ann, passed away from a secondary cancer which, amazingly had remained dormant for a couple of years. She was 93 and, with Husband’s Dad had had some really fun times during their ‘second-time around’. Arranging the funeral etc. in lockdown was odd, only 10 of us at the funeral, although her family in Florida could watch via a live webcast. The team from Ann’s care home, Mayfair Lodge, came out and waved her off as the cortege set off from the front of the building. We will be forever grateful for their care over the last 5 years and in awe of what they’ve been through during the coronavirus crisis. Thank you.
