Christmas Day – Tier 2 – Hunstanton

Friday 25th December

Well Christmas didn’t go quite as planned …….. under the Covid-19 pandemic rules our area remains (until Boxing Day) in Tier 2, the rest of my family are in Tier 4, which covers London and the South East, and unable to travel/meet up here for Christmas Lunch as planned. Hopefully, in years to come we will look back and think how strange it was that a family were not allowed to travel a few miles and be together for Christmas – I do hope this is the one and only time!🎄

I cancelled one of the two turkeys I had ordered, without charge, thank you M&S, and we, like many others, are stuck with just each other …… once more!

Our family alternates each year as to who hosts Christmas – when it’s our turn, the nieces and nephews go to their partner’s respective parents on Christmas Day and then come to us on Boxing Day to eat turkey all over again – this day is known as ‘Croxing Day‘! On these alternate years, we normally spend Christmas Day itself on an adventure with my brother and his wife, for example driving to various parts of London or a visit to the seaside, but it was not to be this year.

So we set off alone to Hunstanton in Norfolk (also still in Tier 2). There is a small café ‘Caffé Chai’, which opens on Christmas morning so we were able to have elevenses before our walk along the beach at Old Hunstanton. Oh and the public loos were open unlike in previous lockdowns!

It was a little bracing!!
Picnic lunch in the warm car, overlooking The Wash/North Sea, with a chocolate reindeer for dessert!

What did make the lack of family Christmas celebrations a lot brighter was the early birth of Stanley two days before Christmas. A little brother for Teddy, a much-loved new son for Em and Chris and my (third) Great Nephew.
