Thursday 22nd – Wednesday 28th April
Thursday 22nd April
Well, that was a long break – the last time the motorhome was out (apart from an exciting trip for its MOT) was Friday 30th October – a hiatus of 5 months and 23 days. So, Lockdown 3.0 – the longest and most tedious lockdown for us – and now Step 2 of the release plan, has finally allowed self-contained accommodation (including motorhomes) to be used from 12th April. Albeit with only loos in use in the facilities blocks, not showers, I don’t quite follow the logic of that decision. 🤪
We couldn’t go immediately, but it is the 22nd April, we’ve remembered how to pack the motorhome and we are off to the Caravan & Motorhome Club site at East Runton, Norfolk – https://www.caravanclub.co.uk/club-sites/england/east-anglia/norfolk/incleboro-fields-caravan-club-site/

Friday 23rd April
A stroll around Cromer this morning – everyone is doing the ‘pavement dodge’, nervously trying to walk around others – we are very conscious that locals are wary of ‘holidaymakers’ who may be bringing more infection to their area but, of course, the businesses are desperate for their trade.
We dip into a couple of shops, but otherwise it’s just nice to be somewhere different and to enjoy being beside the seaside. It’s a fabulous sunny day.
On the way back to the site we discovered a new, modern restaurant and fresh seafood shop – Rocky Bottoms https://www.rockybottoms.co.uk/. We bought a dressed crab for starter that evening, which was yum! Then tried to book an outdoor table for lunch the next day; fully booked, great for them. Turned out to be lucky for us as it was very windy/freezing. 🥶 Must try it on our next visit.
Saturday 24th April
Today into Sheringham – a stroll along the seafront and around the town.

We wandered for some time looking for a ‘safe’ space to have a coffee. You can only eat/drink outside at this time and many places in Sheringham are small with no outside space so simply can’t open until 17th May; it’s so tough for them. We did find a little gem that had such good coffee and pastries, we ordered a second coffee and a packed lunch!! The Sitting Room – https://www.thesittingroom.cafe
We ate the packed lunch in a shelter on the front, facing away from the sea. It was bright but freezing. Brrrrr! 🥶
Sunday 25th April
Today a top-up food shop in Waitrose, North Walsham and then on to the National Trust property – Felbrigg Hall – https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/felbrigg-hall-gardens-and-estate In these times you have to book of course. A stroll around the famous walled garden and a stunning circular walk through the woodlands.
Monday 26th April
A day for me to chill at the motorhome, to knit and listen to podcasts in solitary bliss. Meanwhile Husband went back to Felbrigg (they kindly let him in even though he wasn’t booked) and walked …… a lot; afterwards he drove across to Mundesley. On his day out he took in the region of 30 photos. I’ve put just two here as a representation of his day!
Later, we walked up Incleborough Hill directly from the site – lovely views across to Cromer and Sheringham with the (now 3) wind farms in the distance out at sea. As we returned to the site, time for a beer outside the The Hole in One Sports Bar & Grill at the golf club https://theholein1.co.uk/. First beer since Lockdown 3.0 (except, of course, for the one he had in Mundesley earlier!!)
Tuesday 27th April
Today a classic walk along the beautiful, expansive beach at Wells-Next-the-Sea by the side of the glamourous (expensive) beach huts and then back through the glorious pines.
A fish & chip lunch from the famous French’s Fish Shop http://www.frenchs.co.uk/ frying since 1921. We found a lovely spot to eat outdoors on the edge of the harbour with a stunning view …… until a big black cloud, followed by a howling wind from nowhere and thus had freezing chips!!

Wednesday 28th April
It’s an easy walk from the site to East Runton station for a lovely train ride into Norwich. We walked into the city centre via the river and the cathedral.
Norwich station is a beautiful building (although taken in to the sun it’s hard to see that!) and the line has some new rolling stock – a much smoother ride.

Norwich Station
We are booked into the site until Thursday morning and we’ve had sunny weather and a lovely time but, currently, Covid-19 rules mean one can only sit outside to eat/drink so it’s been pretty cold at times, especially when you’re out all day, so we’ve decided to go home late afternoon and warm up. It was a shame really as, when we reached home, we found we’d run out of heating oil so had no heat at all! 🥶
It’s been brilliant to be back on the road.
