Friday 24th – Sunday 26th December
Friday 24th December
We had decided to re-run the Christmas rota that should’ve been in place in 2020, i.e. our turn to do Christmas Day. The house was clean(ish), the Christmas tree and decorations were (almost) up, the food was (mostly) bought. Everyone was testing negative! The excitement for a ‘proper’ Christmas was tangible.

Christmas eve lunch time – an urgent phone call from Em …….. she’d had to call an ambulance for Stanley. I sped over to look after Teddy until Chris could get home and got there to find the lovely paramedics holding a, still smiling, but very pale looking Stanley; they were taking him in to have him checked over. Teddy and I watched from his bedroom as the ambulance pulled away from the house. We’re not sure if Christmas is on or off!

Saturday 25th December
Thankfully, Stanley was released later that evening and, amazingly, everyone still managed to make it for a ‘proper’ Christmas Day – like so many other families, for the first time in two years.

Sunday 27th December
For the last few years we’ve tried to visit the seaside on the day when the family are off to their ‘in-laws’. Last year, Husband and I were alone in Hunstanton where we were still allowed to go as both us and they remained in Tier 2 …. until the following day.
This year JW & Elaine were able to come too. We visited our regular coffee stop – Caffe Chai, near the seafront before a bracing (short) walk along the beach at Old Hunstanton.

It’s about 70 miles to the seaside, but so worth it …. even in the rain.
