Well, Well, Well, Norfolk again

Wednesday 19th – Friday 21st October

Yup, I know we’re just back from Norfolk; this time we are going to Wells-next-the-Sea. Our trip was a tale of two halves – the sunny half and the rainy half!

Wednesday 19th October

We are returning to Wells-next-the-Sea and The Globe Inn at https://www.theglobeatwells.co.uk with our good friends Judith & Nigel. After driving a fair distance from two entirely different places we, weirdly, arrived within a few minutes of each other.

After a cuppa in Mrs B’s Tea Room https://www.facebook.com/MrsBsTeas/, we walked the edge of the harbour, along the lengthy Beach Road and out on to the gloriously wide expanse of beach with it’s colourful beach huts, for which Wells-next-the-Sea is so famous.

We paused for a bite to eat at the, relatively new, cafe and loos at The Look Out https://www.holkham.co.uk/visit/things-to-do/eat-stay-shop/places-to-eat/the-lookout/, then walked inland to Holkham Village and the main part of the Holkham Estate; finally, following the road back into Wells-next-the-Sea.

A lovely walk in very pleasant Autumn weather!

We checked in and, later, had dinner in The Globe Inn which, above its inner courtyard, had a great deal of jolly bunting!

I would definitely return to and recommend The Globe Inn, the staff were welcoming and friendly, the accomodation and food were good, however, the housekeeping was rather random – there were no hangers in our wardrobe “they might have been stolen by the previous occupants”; kettle etc provided, but no milk of any sort with which to make a cup of tea/coffee. Husband obtained milk from the kitchen; housekeeping removed the milk during cleaning the following day, without replacing it, so Husband had to make a second foray to the kitchen. The room had not been cleaned when we returned from our walk – “we clean the empty rooms first” …. check-in isn’t until 3.00pm so wouldn’t it be sensible to clean the occupied rooms first? Doh!

Thursday 20th October

Not quite the same weather today – absolutely pouring with rain. Why then did we decide to continue with our planned walk anyway?!

Part way round we had a very nice coffee in Burnham Market at the Tuscan Farm Shop https://tuscanfarmshop.com. I guess they are used to muddy walkers dripping all over their floor as they didn’t seem at all phased by our mess.

The car is parked over there, shame we haven’t got a boat to get to it!

When we got back to The Globe it was a case of standing in one place/puddle, peeling off the wet clothes, boots and bags and hanging everything around the room to dry. Shame we haven’t got any coat hangers of course!

Husband’s cagoule probably needs replacing as it leaked somewhat!

In dry clothes, three of us set out to have a light lunch at Bang https://www.banginwells.co.uk, which also turns out to have rooms. Nice people, nice food.

After a chilled afternoon (except for Nigel who did another walk!) we ate out at the Wells Crab House https://wellscrabhouse.co.uk a restaurant not to be missed and one that needs booking in advance; they have a waiting list for popular days!

Rocking good after meal sweet!

Friday 21st October

One last breakfast and we started our journey, getting home by 11.30am.

I had been feeling a bit under the weather over the weekend …. when we got home I went straight to bed and slept heavily for the entire afternoon. Two days later I tested positive for Covid-19; Husband followed me 3 days after that. Having avoided it for so long we had succumbed.πŸ¦
